Bahrain participates in the Judo Masters Championship, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF) in collaboration with the Hungarian Judo Association in Budapest. Askerbii Gerbekov, a member of the national team, competes in the 81 kilogram weight category, alongside judo players from around the world.

This marks Bahrain’s first ever participation in this championship, which is limited to the top 36 ranked players according to the International Judo Federation’s ranking.

Askerbii Gerbekov confirmed his participation in this international event, securing his spot by reaching the 34th position in the international ranking. His achievements in the Tajikistan International Grand Prix, Kazakhstan Grand Slam, and Mongolia Grand Slam tournaments earned him 260 points, boosting him from 37th to 34th in the international ranking.

The Judo Masters Championship is one of the crucial qualifying tournaments for the judo competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Bahraini Judo team aims for a positive outcome for Askerbii Gerbekov, as it would earn him more points and bring him closer to securing a higher position in the international ranking, increasing his chances of qualifying for the upcoming Olympics.
