Arab Summit: Algeria’s Prime Minister Says Global Challenges Require Arab Unity

Prime Minister of Algeria Aymen Benabderrahmane said that the world is experiencing challenges that require unification of the Arab world.

He called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and to enable them to regain their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative.

This came during his speech at the 32nd regular session of the Arab League Council at the summit level. He pointed out that Algeria harnessed its diplomacy to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause, and was keen to reunite the Palestinian ranks, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and put an end to the Israeli settlement policy.

He said that Algeria hosted the 31st summit during a very complicated time regionally and internationally, especially with the breakout of the Ukrainian crisis that posed new challenges to the world when it comes to food and energy security.

He renewed the call to mobilize Arab financing capacities, especially the Arab Monetary Fund and the existing Arab funds, to assist member states that are in dire need of this assistance to enable them to overcome these difficult circumstances.
