Doha: The General Secretariat of the Arab League, represented by the Media and Communication Sector, has launched the 9th edition of the Arab Excellence Media Award, entitled “Arab Youth and New Media.” Nominations for this award will continue until April 30, 2025.
According to Qatar News Agency, the General Secretariat highlighted that the award intends to demonstrate the outstanding media models in the Arab world, which include Television and radio works, as well as journalism and digital media.
The prerequisites for this award are that candidates must hold Arab nationality, and the work must be in Arabic, the statement reads, stressing that the work must not have received any previous awards from any entity. Nominations should refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of the member states.
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, underscored the importance of participation in this award, as it addresses matters that directly affect the youth segment, especially after new media has become one of the most consequential features of modernity in Arab communities.
The scope of this award highlights the role of social media platforms in raising young people’s awareness of societal issues, supporting comprehensive development, and preserving national and cultural identity, he added.
Overall, the award is a prestigious one targeting both public and private media figures and institutions, as well as Arab organizations and unions with observer status in the Arab Ministerial Council for Information.
It falls under Resolution No. 534 adopted during the 53rd session held in Rabat, Morocco, on June 21, 2023, aiming to promote media excellence and the capabilities of Arab journalists, in addition to encouraging member states to ensure diversity and engage youth in their nominations.
