Arab League Holds Consultative Meeting to Prepare for Global Refugee Forum

Cairo, The General Secretariat of the Arab League (Refugees, Expatriates and Migration Affairs Department) organized Sunday the regional consultative meeting in preparation for the second Global Refugee Forum, scheduled to be held in Geneva on December 13, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The meeting is part of the efforts aimed at preparing effective Arab participation in the Global Refugee Forum which is one of the mechanisms through which the Global Refugee Compact is followed up and reviewed. The 2023 edition is co-organized by Jordan, Colombia, France, Japan, Niger, and Uganda.

The meeting aims to monitor the progress made in implementing the Global Compact on Refugees, which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018, within the framework of ongoing cooperation in this regard between the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

It also provides the opportunity to evaluate progress made towards Arab countries’ pledges and exchange information on preparations for the second session of the Global Refugee Forum 2023, including new elements and key considerations regarding high-quality and consistent pledges, and the exchange of good practices.
