New York:Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Nabil Fahmy, met with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, to discuss the current situations in Sudan and Libya. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions focused on enhancing coordination between the Arab League and international parties involved in the crises in Sudan and Libya.
For Sudan, Nabil Fahmy highlighted the need for increased international efforts to secure a humanitarian truce, aiming for a permanent ceasefire and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions.
Regarding Libya, Fahmy stressed the need to advance the political process towards unifying institutions and conducting elections. He asserted that Libya's stability hinges on a purely Libyan consensus that ensures local ownership of the political process, and he affirmed the Arab League's commitment to supporting UN efforts in this area.
The meeting also reviewed the broader regional situation, with the Arab League Secretary-General stressing the importance of preventing escalation and prioritizing diplomacy to avoid further regional deterioration.
