AMD Unveils New AI Chips to Compete with Nvidia

Beijing, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) unveiled its latest artificial intelligence (AI) processors on Monday and detailed its plan to develop AI chips over the next two years in a bid to challenge industry leader Nvidia.

AMD has been vying to compete against Nvidia, which currently dominates the lucrative market for AI semiconductors.

At the Computex technology trade show in Taipei, AMD CEO Lisa Su introduced the MI325X accelerator, which is set to be made available in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Su said the company is still getting strong demand for its existing MI300 products.

That new chip, the successor to the MI300, will feature more memory and faster data throughput, the company said. MI350 will follow in 2025 and the MI400 model a year after that.

AMD is among the companies rushing to market with new products aimed at tapping the flood of cash being poured into new AI training systems.
