Aman hosts a meeting between official parties and the unions of gas station owners and gas companies

Ramallah – Ma’an – The Coalition for Integrity and Accountability (AMAN) called for a brainstorming meeting that brought together representatives from the Palestine Monetary Authority, the Association of Banks, the General Petroleum Corporation, and the unions of gas station owners and gas companies; the meeting aimed to overcome the challenges associated with the government’s policy of encouraging electronic payment by citizens, whether in obtaining some public services or in obtaining services and products provided by the private sector.

The meeting came within the framework of the positive contribution of the Aman Coalition to intervene for the public interest, especially after some banks hesitated regarding cash deposits by fuel station owners, for reasons related to the amount of money required to be deposited, according to the claim submitted by the Fuel Station Owners Syndicate.

The official parties presented the importance of the policy adopted by the government regarding electronic payment, and its
support for the Palestinian economy, while the unions of fuel station owners and gas companies presented a summary of the problems they face in implementing this policy, and the challenges associated with the current societal culture associated with electronic payment, and the weak demand for it, which varies from one region to another, despite the encouraging campaigns carried out by Palestinian banks under the supervision of the Palestine Monetary Authority.

The meeting concluded with the Monetary Authority providing a comprehensive explanation of its policies in this regard, while the Fuel Station Owners Syndicate called for adopting a cash payment policy gradually and contributing to raising the level of consumers’ readiness to use it, stressing that it will submit its proposals in this regard, to be studied with the Monetary Authority’s proposals by the official parties and to come up with joint solutions in this regard.
