Al Wakra was crowned Qatar Handball Cup champion for the 2022/2023 sports season after defeating Al Gharafa 26-21 in their final match at Duhail Sports Hall today.
Al Wakra claimed the title for the first time as they reached the finale three times, while Al Gharafa finished the runner-up for the third time as they had lost the final match in the 2016/2017 and 2018/2019 seasons.
After the match, HE Second Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Handball Association Ahmed Al Shaabi, and Vice President of the international federation Bader Al Theyab crowned Al Wakra (the champion) with the cup and gold medals and handed over the silver medals to Al Gharafa (the runner-up).
Al Wakra deserved to win as they were the best in most periods of the match. The first half ended with a 12-11 lead before widening the difference even more by five goals in the second half.
