Adviser Highlights GCC Security Challenges and Cooperation at Georgetown Qatar Session

Doha:Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, emphasized the importance of enhancing resilience and strengthening regional cooperation during a session on "GCC Security: Alliances, Threats, and Strategic Choices." The event was organized by Georgetown University Qatar's Center for International and Regional Studies.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Ansari discussed the evolving security landscape within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), focusing on the significance of alliances, international partnerships, and multilateral frameworks in tackling emerging security challenges.

Dr. Al Ansari addressed the relationship between Qatar and Iran, highlighting the necessity of maintaining dialogue and communication to manage differences and support regional stability. He noted the growing cooperation and cohesion among GCC states following regional crises, which has resulted in stronger coordination across various sectors.

He also discussed the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for regional and international security, energy flows, global trade, and supply chains, emphasizing the broader implications of regional crises on global security and the international economy.

Furthermore, Dr. Al Ansari reaffirmed Qatar's role in mediation, stating that it remains a crucial tool for enhancing security, with Qatar prioritizing dialogue and facilitating communication between conflicting parties. He clarified that the role of a mediator is to bring parties together to reach agreements, without assuming responsibility for reconstruction or guaranteeing peace.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion where Dr. Al Ansari responded to questions on regional security, GCC cooperation, Qatar's foreign policy, and mediation efforts, along with other regional and international developments.
