Wellington: A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of New Zealand Tuesday. There were no initial reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami warning was issued.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey said in a statement that the earthquake occurred 300 kilometers southwest of Invercargill, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
It is worth noting that New Zealand is located on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of seismic faults under the Pacific Ocean, which is frequently affected by earthquakes and volcanoes.
