Riyadh: An earthquake measuring five magnitude on the Richter scale struck eastern Indonesia Thursday: An earthquake with a magnitude of five on the Richter scale struck eastern Indonesia on Thursday, causing concern among residents and authorities.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement issued by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicated that the earthquake's epicenter was located 231 kilometers west of the Tanimbar Islands, at a depth of 137 kilometers. Despite the quake's significant magnitude, no tsunami warnings were issued, providing some relief to the local population.

Indonesia is situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its high levels of seismic and volcanic activity due to the convergence of several tectonic plates. This geographical positioning results in frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, making preparedness and rapid response crucial for minimizing the impact of such natural events.
