An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the Aysen region of Chile.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 15 km below the surface of the earth, at the confluence of latitude 44.87 degrees south and longitude 78.09 degrees west.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or material losses.
On May 7, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the Antofagasta region in northern Chile.
In 2010, an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude and tsunami hit central and southern Chile, killing 500 people.
Chile is located in an area called the Ring of Fire, which is an arc of rifts that surround the Pacific Ocean basin, and is subject to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
