4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Fiji Islands

An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Fiji Islands in the South Pacific on Wednesday.

The epicenter of the quake occurred on the coast of the Fiji Islands, at a depth of 407 km, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

There have been no reports of casualties or material losses due to the earthquake so far.

The Fiji Islands are located in an area called the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean, which is exposed to many tremors and aftershocks that may be strong at times.

On August 2, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake hit the Fiji Islands, at a depth of 553.4 km.
