4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Vanuatu

An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Vanuatu on Monday.

The earthquake occurred 49 km from the town of Isangel at a depth of 8.3 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said in a statement.

There have been no reports of human losses or material damage resulting from the earthquake.

Vanuatu is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, lies on top of the Pacific Ring of Fire – a tectonic belt of volcanoes and earthquakes.
